Re: Album of the Day

Fanfarlo is pretty good. I first heard about them when I came across a video on youtube of them covering In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.

No, they did a promotion where they put around 1000 tickets on sale for each show of the tour at $85 each, fees included ($73.66 before fees.) You can only order 2, they must be picked up at will-call before the show, and you get escorted into the venue to ensure no pass-offs or scalping. The tickets are randomly assigned throughout the venue, so you don't know where your seats will be until you pick up the tickets. Could be in the nosebleeds, could be right down in the 'Tongue Pit.' I was lucky enough to scoop up a pair at that special price. Wasn't going to fork out the cash otherwise.

that's pretty cool. no matter what, you're in the building for less than $250, which is more than a lot of people going can say.

That's what I figured - even if we get the worst seats in the house I'll still know I paid less than half of what the guy next to me did.

For me, Jake Bugg is easily the front-runner for Album of the Year. Seriously, if you haven't listened, make it a priority today.

That album came out last year, and I think I was the only one who had it on my Ants AOTY 2012 list. I had it at #4 I think. So awesome.

See, I was unaware becasue it was a 2012 release in the UK only. Just released today in the US, so am I able to use it for AOTY, still? I forget the rule. Anyway, it's fucking awesome. Holy shit.

Probably would've been Top 3 for me in 2012, easily.

Yeah, he's kinda blowing up now. "Two Fingers" was featured in the HBO series Girls I believe. Also "Lightning Bolt" is in that new Gatorade commercial. He's only 19 too...pretty nuts.

So...because it was on a single AOTY list, that means it's not eligible for this year, right? If I remember my rules correctly. Of Monsters And Men comes to mind.

Just got done with this. I found it quite enjoyable. I agree with whoever stated earlier that it wasn't such a drastic departure from their core sound as it was made out to be. It was a lot more based on the melodies and song structures rather than the riffs and chord progressions on 'Nothing is Wrong'. More electric guitar and keyboards, but not in an obtrusive way.

Yes, but sounds VERY 1960's British Invasion to me. I think you would really like him, from what I know of your musical tastes.

I've given it three full listens, and it gets better each time through, for me. I think this will grow and grow on me. I really like it. Although, I think there are less electric guitar than 'Nothing Is Wrong', but yeah, more keyboards (like you said, not obtrusively though).

I think maybe I am noticing the electric more simply because the acoustic guitars aren't nearly as up front as they are on either of their first 2 records. You're right though, a lot more up front electric on the last album on stuff like 'If I Wanted Someone', 'Fire Away', etc.

I think this one will grow on me too. Actually both of their other albums were the same way with me. I went from "Meh..." to "Actually I'm starting to like this a lot..." to "OK, I love this record."

NP: Paul McCartney & Wings - 'Band on the Run'

So great. Not just the hits but the album cuts are so strong - Bluebird, Mrs. Vanderbilt, Nineteen Hundred Eighty Five, etc.

I would assume. I am listening on Spotify until I can get to the record store after work, but I don't think either of those are what you meant.

Huh...good for him! I don't have HBO and I don't think I've seen/heard the commercial. I bumped into him in a British music magazine at the book store yesterday, and briefed the feature on him, which got me interested.
