Re: Does anyone else notice this?

For the most part this is true...

However songs like Billies, Proudest Monkey, & Satellite have been dramatically slowed down as well. Listen to RR95 vs. any modern day Billies and it will become apparent quickly.

If anyone mentioned in 2007 that they would ever miss Butch if he left they would have gotten endlessly flamed for it.

Please, no Butch. Long live Tim's tenure in the band.

Also: Tim's worst days > Butch's best days imo.

No kidding. When tim joined for the 2008 tour it was like a godsend. He had saved the band. Unanimous praise. Now people want Butch back. You just can't please everyone.

Tim decided he'd overpower? or the band decided they like how he plays on it?

I was just gonna say this. RR 95 has some up tempo recordings

A perfect example of this would be to listen to DDTW from 98-99, then listen to it from the past few years. Much slower back in the day. Fortunately, I think for that particular song, it works out for the better.

Yea, especially Proudest Monkey. that is one song that I prefer 1995 style (RR 95, LT 5). Dave's guitar sounds different and I like the up-tempo version of this song.

Definitely want to keep Tim but want him to use more acoustic guitar, and to be more subtle in his fills, and have only an occasional electric solo. At same time why not add back a keyboard player too.. a lot of songs could benefit. But same rule here applies: keep the keyboard involvement in songs to a subtle, minimal level. Don't have long extended keyboard solos. Get Dave back to his '95 style guitar..get him playing more.. emphasize Boyd, Jeff, Rashawn, and Carter more. Get rid of that Tim/Carter abomination that ended Two Steps of 2009-2010 and replace it with a more subtle Tim and a more CentralPark-like Carter ending where you can actually hear a rhythm to the drum patterns.

Can you imagine if songs like crazy easy actually got liberated? They would probably race through it. Personally, although it was great hearing songs like last stop get brought back last year, no version tops those such as Chicago or the Central Park Bonus Disk. Im not sure if its the band trying to fit more songs into a show now, or if they feel like this is for the best. Thoughts?
9/10 times I prefer faster tempos, so I'm cool with it. I like DMB when they are more intense, louder, faster, harder.

no i like the more laid back, acoustic DMB style of the mid 90's to mid 00's. less of the intense rock and more of the jazz, bluegrass, folk, african style that typified the band's prime years (1995-2004). with Tim still included of course but a more controlled and more acoustic Tim.

Loved how they both sounded in 98, and Butch had a fantastic run with this band from then to 04. I'd really like to see both of them back on stage together and see what happens.

The tempos were crazy fast in the mid 90s. In a good way.

I think you're trying to justify using the name Foundational Butch, which has probably only ever happened a) here, and b) in a secret Mattel lesbian Barbie naming meeting.

Absolutely. I'd much much rather have lead guitar than a foundation keyboard player (would like to hear a short tour with both tho).
