i searched and only found the Pearl Jam Thread and the Favorite Grunge Band Thread. But i thought that this was a better fit than the favorite grunge band thread.

Sure Purple is great, but Core is such a solid grunge album from top to bottom.

I was only like, 5-7 years old during the best part of the grunge era, luckily my older sister bestowed everything she owned to me when she moved out to go to college in 98.

Long live this music. I was a little young for it (born in 1984), but that didn't stop me from listening to it... I had no idea what they were singing about, but I knew I loved it. I remember sneaking downstairs at my grandparents' house to see these videos on MTV, recording the songs off the radio, and then my older cousin was a Pearl Jam devotee, so I became one, too, because I thought he was the coolest kid ever. I'll never forget when I ordered Vs. on my Mom's Columbia House account when I was about 12 or 13, and when it came to to the house, she looked at the cover and said, "What is this?!?"

It's great music and it brings back awesome memories. That's one of life's most amazing combinations, in my opinion.

what's grunge and what's just 90s alternative rock? i don't consider STP or the pumpkins "grunge" but i get where you're going. badmotorfinger is amazing and chris cornell might have the era's most iconical voice. throw on some "singles"...

i also have a comment re: green day. dookie rules, but i really love "1039 smoothed out slappy hours" better. it's just so young and raw. definitely under the radar, but they used to be my favorite band (along with SP) and i loved that record a lot.

I don't consider SP grunge. STP is grunge, just not Seattle grunge.

I love all of these bands. Great thread.

Is grunge music still around outside of the older groups? Are there new grunge bands? I haven't kept up with it as of late, but I love those older guys.

i guess i really only associate "grunge" with seattle bands. if they're not from seattle, i lump them into 90s alt. where were days of the new from?

I associate Grunge with a certain sound. and IMO all of those bands listed, although not to say they sound alike, but they have a similar feel to them. Very crunchy, hard sound to them.

Days Of The New was founded in Louisville Kentucky.

It would also be really cool if this thread became kind of an HQ for posting of Tours for these bands or associated acts like Chris Cornell.
