Unfortunately, most prices have shot up. I stayed at Embassy last year and it was great, but like you said very pricey. I know a few of us are booked at the Holiday Inn and also The Inn at Saratoga. If you are looking cheaper, maybe the Best Western? If you really want to go cheap, you can look into the Community Court or Top Hill Motel, but they are not exactly high quality hotels lol.

I've heard good things but its not in the heart of Saratoga like most of the other ones, I don't think.

If you are willing to travel a bit to save money, you can look into Malta Hotels, or if you're really willing to travel, Clifton Park Hotels should not have been affected by the announcement.

Never done Ballfest but we might try it out, seems like a good time. Kind of embarrassed to say, but I had never even heard of it.

Go to Ballsfest. It is a must do part of the whole weekend. Yeah, it is touted as a all-you-can-eat-and-drink party, but Frank and his team are doing angels work for these kids and their families. Worth every penny and more, plus you get to hang with about 200-300 other fans for 4-5 hours before the show. How is that for a tailgate?
