Re: What was the last movie you watched?
Tusk
While I respect Kevin Smith's attempt at depth with these horror movies like this and Red State, I really wish he would return to his 90s form. I heard that he didn't take this film seriously at all because it was intended to finance Clerks III, which his studio wouldn't finance. Justin Long is the obligatory b-list actor backed up by the Sixth Sense Kid (because that's who he'll always be), Haley Joel Osmond. One consistency is the use of Michael Parks, a very underrated actor, as the antagonist, a borderline personality villain, whose motivations are somehow human despite his actions being inhumane. This movie had similar themes to Human Centipede, and honestly, I'm not sure Kevin Smith tried very hard writing the script - which itself originated from a podcast. The ending is, as with most of his movies, an epiphany for at least one of the characters. There is a nice underlying theme of karma in this movie. Don't be a dick or you might end up...well, you'll just have to watch the movie. I'm giving this a 6.5/10, great on a rainy day, but don't go out of your way to see it. As per usual cameos in this movie from folks in the View Askewniverse, including an uncredited appearance by Johnny Depp, as well as Smith's daughter, Harley-Quinn, and Depp's daughter. A non-sequel spinoff is in the works and a third movie as well.
