** BBQ Cooking Discussion **

Making pulled pork for tomorrow and this will be my first go around. Ive read a ton of different ways but wanted to see if anyone has a good version. Roaster rack or bag, what liquids do you use? Any ideas would be helpful!

I just throw it in the Crock pot while I'm at work with some dark beer (Guinness) in there for the liquid. Sometimes I will throw it in the oven but usually use the Crock pot. The slow setting and you cook for about 8-10 hours. The high setting and it is done in 4-5 hours. Leave the bone in because that is where all the flavor is.

I have heard that injecting it with coca-cola is good for pork, but that may be a smoking thing. I would say low and slow is going to be your best option other than smoking. cook it for 7-8 hours on a low temp. If you have a smoker that would be best (in my opinion).

Awesome! Be prepared to become an addict. You will find yourself smoking any food you can think of. It really is a fun hobby.

Not a fan of pulled pork out of the oven. Doesn't seem to cook right imo. I'm a slow cooker guy in the winter. But if the weather cooperates, nothing like smoking it.

I have a Weber Smokey Mountain, but when it's cold out or want to keep it simple, I'll use a crock pot too. We cooked one for a party a couple of weeks ago using apple cider (to cover) and some BBQ sauce. After it's done, you just have to remove from the crock pot, pull it and add some BBQ sauce.
    It was great!

Braising liquid is good too. Dark beer, cinnamon, cloves, whole garlic, pepper, salt.

I also don't have a smoker...yet. Crock Pot kills it! Low heat for several hours = deliciousness.

So the crock seems the way to go! Ive had it in the fridge for a few hours soaking in a mix of pepsi, Dundee pilsner and apple juice. Would you just dump all that into the crock? Or go with just BBQ sauce?

Pour it all in. And you just use time. Depending on the temp, you're looking at a minimum of 4 hours. Probably closer to 6. Then drain it, pull it, and put it back in the crock with sauce to warm it up again.

crock pot...can't go wrong. Throw it in there with a full chopped onion, green pepper, and garlic along with a large bottle of sweet baby rays and you will have amazingly good pulled pork.

I agree with the crock pot but the secret is, beforehand, run it through the dishwasher with liquid smoke in the soap despenser.

Pots and Pans setting if you have it.

Turned out delicious. Got it pulled in the crock pot. Just gotta run to the store and grab some bbq sauce. It'll be good to go for dinner at 2!

I don't use a marinade, and either my pulled pork or ribs, both slow smoked, will kick yours asses.

I'll also take Craig's tips over yours any day of the week, for he's proven his genius time and time again. His Whiskey sauce recipe is the bomb, and the Memphis Magic Dust rub is one of the single most important parts of any of my bbq ventures.

I have a 5 pounder in the crock pot right now cooking on low in a pint of Guinness with garlic, smoked paprika, a little cumin, ground clove, peppercorn, applesauce and a couple tangerines. Pretty much whatever I had around the house. Shredding and adding a whiskey BBQ sauce in about an hour.

In a marinade? I'd agree. In a braising liquid? They totally have a place.
