Re: Australian Tour April 07.....

Hello Everyone.

It's been a while.

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

No big DMB news to report (just a little poster trading here and there), but very excited about The National shows later this week, and the inclusion of Robert Randolph and Trombone Shorty on the BluesFest lineup.

For those not going to BF, RR is supporting Derek Trucks in Sydney (link below) and Palace, Melbourne.

http://www.enmoretheatre.com.au/even...he-family-band

Shorty is also doing sideshows in Sydney & Melb, supporting Irma Thomas.

http://www.tromboneshorty.com

Enjoy!

A MAJOR STAR of the future, Trombone Shorty has just signified generational change in New Orleans by winning no less than FIVE trophies at the Best of the Beat Awards – essentially the New Orleans Music Awards. NEVER BEFORE has one N'awlins musician won this many as he took out Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (Backatown), Best R&B/Funk Artist, Best R&B/ Funk Album of the Year (Backatown), and Best Trombonist – nice work!

Meanwhile, Los Angeles-based Fishbone have been performing their charged blend of ska, funk, punk and rock since 1979 and are labeled as one of the most distinctive and eclectic alternative rock bands since the late '80s.

Fishbone is one of the most long lasting acts in the alternative music scene and has influenced countless bands including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus, Public Enemy, and Jane’s Addiction.

Combining humour with sharp social commentary, the band has earned a sizable cult following – and are sensational live in concert! WARREN HAYNES and his ALL STAR BAND + special guest JOE LOUIS WALKER and his band

Here we have celebrated American guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, Warren Haynes, lead guitarist for The Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers (and of course Gov’t Mule) with his ALL-STAR BAND. Special guest is Blues guitar legend Joe Louis Walker and his band making for an evening of double-barrel guitar heroics and action!

Warren, named the 23rd best guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone’s, and his ALL-STAR BAND will help him showcase new soul-oriented material under the Warren Haynes Band banner in anticipation of his first solo album for 19 years, tentatively titled “Man in Motion.”

His fantastic ALL-STAR band includes: Warren Haynes Guitar – Vocals; Ron Holloway – Sax (much loved jazz legend who has worked with Sonny Rollins, The Allman Brothers, Susan Tedeschi, Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Scott-Heron and Root Boy Slim); Danny Louis – Keyboards, Vocals (keyboardist extraordinaire for Stockholm Syndrome and Gov't Mule); Ruthie Foster - Vocals, Guitar (acclaimed artist and singer that blends blues, gospel, country-folk and jazz stylings); Ron Johnson – Bass (New Monsoon, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Panjea); and Terence Higgins – Drums (the New Orleans monster drummer and driving force behind The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, also worked with George Porter Jr., Fats Domino, Dr. John, Marva Wright, Jon Cleary, Norah Jones, John Scofield, and The Black Crows).

Joining Warren Haynes as special guest is Joe Louis Walker, one of the last great Blues guitar heroes – and current holder of the 2010 Blues Music Award for Album of the Year! The Philadelphia Inquirer calls Joe “one of the preeminent bluesmen of his generation”, and Blues Revue says he is “soulful, heartfelt and spellbinding”. We say with his name placed alongside B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Otis Rush, axe lovers should not miss the chance to see Joe Louis Walker. Labeled as one of the most exciting and innovative Blues artists of recent decades, the multiple Grammy and Blues Music Award-winner has garnered fans such as Mick Jagger, B.B. King, The Edge, Bono, and Herbie Hancock, who show up at his concerts whenever the opportunity arises!

It was announced a little to late for me so Fingers crossed for me to see DMB in 2012..........

Im heading to Europe soon for the Marillion Weekend which is along the same vein of the DMB Caravan.

Its a 3 day thing where they headline each night have support bands etc.........................they have booked out a Centre Parcs in Port Zelande (Netherlands)and have erected their own stage. Everyone staying there is there to see the band so theres just this great vibe about the whole weekend. There are events on during the days such as signings, photo ops, group trivia comps (about the band) and against the band, swap the band where people have entered that they can play an instument/sing and are swapped in for one of the band members ( I havent seen this live yet and am slightly sceptical) ...................they've been doing this for a while now its a biannual thing starting in 2001 and in 2009 they had two weekends one in Port Zelande (Netherlands) which I attended as a casual fan (and am now a fully fledged fan now) and one in Montreal. This year they are having 3 Port Zelande/Montreal/England

so it looks like DMB are doing a similar thing this year I've often wondered about them doing something like the MW I thought that they had too large a fanbase to pull it off, as well as the fact that they tour every summer in the US so it wasnt really needed...........................oh well

hope some of you get there!!!!!!

A "Just Back From The Show" post. Anyone else go?

BB King at The State Theatre Sydney.

When he was actually playing & singing, wonderful. The vocals on the opening "The Thrill Is Gone" has made it onto my "magic moments" at a concert list.

    but.......

too much wasted time, too much band, too much banter, one of the longest band intros ever.

band started on their own, (not unusual), but played 2 full songs, the second included a long guitar solo by the band guitarist.......sorry mate, don't care how good you are, you weren't BB. Then BB walked on, of course massive applause, standing ovation, took a while to get to his seat, throwing out picks to the crowd as he went, played about 2 lines, then decided now was a good time to introduce the band (all 8 or 9 of them) each with their own story........so unfortunately for me, some of the anticipation of looking forward to this legend was was being spoiled by irritation of now being maybe 20+mins into his set & still waiting to hear him play. And then in the first full song....a long keyboard solo!

and the concert didn't get flowing as the music got too broken up by crowd banter. I just would have prefered more music.

Still glad I went, just would have been happier with more BB playing & singing & less talk & band.

Long time between posts but I wonder if anyone has a link (if indeed there is one,'cos I can't find anything on youtube) to the band's performance of 'Why I Am' on The Jimmy Fallon Show a couple of years ago, around the time the latest album was released.

It's not world in peril stuff but I had the song going through my head & I recall that version was pretty good. All my cds are either flood damaged or in storage. I think most of the DMB ones survived but I have no idea where they are!

I hope everyone here is well.

Sorry can't help you with the link, but good to hear from you. Hope things aren't too bad. If there's any other essential music I can help you with & send your way, please let me know.

Don't know if seeing music is on your agenda at the moment but saw an ad for a Eric Clapton tribute band doing a tour that included Mal Eastick.

Thanks Meredith. I've attended both the Port Fairy Folk Festival & Apollo Bay Music Festival as well as new one in Sunbury catering for old farts like me where musos like Richard Clapton,Glenn Shorrock,et al are wheeled out & the Festival winds up around 8.30 p.m! I'll keep an eye out for the EC Tribute Band. Stars used to play 'Mainline Florida' & it appears on their 1157 'live' album.
