i dunno, the moment i see a man slug a woman i'd think my instinct would be to go after him. luckily i've never seen that happen in person so who knows

It kicked in for me when I saw a girl get decked at a Zac Brown concert in the lawn. I snapped and went right after the guy. My buddies dragged me back before we could really get into it.

If you ever get put in that situation it is its own sort of experience for how you react. I was in a sea of people and the danger factor was fairly low for stepping up and intervening. I was also somewhat drunk, so superman syndrome probably kicked in too.

This is a good point. Even the "who cares, it's just athletes, as long as he helps my team win" crowd has to stop and think further if the off the field issues could lead said player to being an absolute bust.

So if Joe Mixon just Ray Rice's his way through life and is not on the field because of it, wouldn't you be pretty pissed at your team for wasting a pick on a guy who can't even stay on the field bc he's such a jag, drug abuser, etc.

Depends. I'd be most concerned with drugs other than weed, alcohol, partying, maturity problems than other issues. Those show repeated poor choices that could affect his ability to play or be ready to play. Domestic and Sexual Assualt convictions would be a no go for me.

Nah. The Bills have had so many players with legal run-ins over the last decade, I'm sort of numb to it.

nothing wrong with that but those 2 sentences are very contradictory
Not necessarily. If he's on the team, I'm going to hope he does his job because I'm a fan of the team and want to see them win. Unfortunately, it will come with the consequence of Chapman individually succeeding. But I still can despise the guy for hitting his girlfriend. Like, if his arm fell off an he never got to pitch again, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I get what you're saying. It's hard to explain (especially on a Monday morning at 9 AM). I think you can simultaneously enjoy your team's victory but still not like the person who is helping achieve that. It probably depends on your definition of "root for".

Would your reaction be different if the victim was someone you knew?

    Depends on the situation

It was embarrassing when Michael Vick killed those dogs.

yea i get it, that just seems like such a hard line to draw

which is why i think it's best to just completely separate on-field from off-field

what these guys do in their personal lives don't affect me one bit so i don't get bent out of shape over any of it. most of the time we have no clue what really happens (unless there's video) so unless it's an Aaron Hernandez/Donte Stallworth conviction type deal, i usually just don't worry about it.
