No news on that yet. With Jimmy Howard's at $2.25 a year for two years I'd guess around that since they are in pretty similar situations.

edit: 8mil total so $2.6mil a year. Surprises me it's that high but if he's even better as time goes on it's a good deal.

I didn't think Crawford would get this much higher than $2 mil, but anything under $3 I am able to deal with. Great to have him signed now. The Hawks have about $8 mil in cap space with 6-7 guys left. I think Hjalmarrson will be gone and we will bring in someone much cheaper to be Campbell's safety net (Sopel).

Like the Crawford signing, glad it didn't turn into a Niemi-esque situation like last year.

It's the whole where there is smoke there is fire. It's gotta be close.

Ken Campbell says it's between Atlanta Spirit and the NHL in terms of relocation fee and who gets how much money.

    http://www.thehockeynews.com/article...ipeg-move.html

I also find it interesting that there was never any type of relocation fee when Hartford, Minnesota, Quebec and Winnipeg left but now there is.

so Atlanta to Winnepeg requires a $60 million relocation fee which goes towards the revenue which bumps the cap? Yes?

Not according to what I read. It would be the same as an expansion fee and does not count as hockey related revenue. The $60mil however would probably help cover the losses of the Coyotes that the $25mil from Glendale did not.

Salak just signed by the Hawks to a one year, 600k deal. So that basically balances the two out to just about the same cap hit I had thought.

    Alexander Salak gets new deal

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed goalie prospect Alexander Salak to a two-year deal worth about $600,000 per year, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The Blackhawks have yet to make an official announcement regarding the deal.

Salak, 24, was acquired in a trade with the Florida Panthers in February for Jack Skille and other prospects. The Hawks also acquired Michael Frolik in the trade.

Salak made his NHL debut in 2009, appearing in two games for the Panthers. He was loaned to Färjestad BK of the Swedish Elite League for the 2010-11 season.

The deal is a one-way contract, according to the source. It makes Salak the front runner to be Corey Crawford's back-up. Crawford signed a new three-year contract extension on Thursday.

Salak's cap hit was $1.3, so now that frees up another $700k and gives a good estimation into who may be backing up Crawford for the next two years.

I'm also fooling around with CapGeek right now, and I set the Cap at $62, even though I think it will go higher than that. Got rid of Hjalmarsson, brought in somebody for $1.5 mil (just used Sopel ), gave Campoli $1.7, Frolik $1.5, and Brouwer $1.2. That leaves me 20 players and I still have $4,931,966 in cap space. My point is that if the Cap goes higher than 62, which a lot of people are saying it will, and the Hawks can get rid of Hjalmarsson and bring in somebody cheaper to do his job (safety net for Campbell) then I think the Hawks can have a lot of space to sign a real good second line center or some wingers.

Not with the 3.5 million cap hit and the season he had last year. The guy is like Happy Gilmore from the point, without the power. He's a nearly 4 million dollar shot blocker with a really good active stick.

This is what I just put together with a signing of 0 outside UFA's or RFA's:

    Quote:
    CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

    FORWARDS
    Patrick Kane ($6.300m) / Jonathan Toews ($6.300m) / Marian Hossa ($5.275m)
    Patrick Sharp ($3.900m) / Dave Bolland ($3.375m) / Bryan Bickell ($0.541m)
    Ben Smith ($0.812m) / Marcus Kruger ($0.900m) / Michael Frolik ($1.275m)
    Troy Brouwer ($1.400m) / Ryan Johnson ($0.500m) / Jeremy Morin ($0.886m)

    DEFENSEMEN
    Brian Campbell ($7.142m) / Brent Seabrook ($5.800m)
    Duncan Keith ($5.538m) / Niklas Hjalmarsson ($3.500m)
    Nick Leddy ($1.116m) / Chris Campoli ($1.300m)
    / John Scott ($0.512m)

    GOALTENDERS
    Corey Crawford ($2.666m) / Alexander Salak ($0.600m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $62,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $59,643,004; BONUSES: $965,000
    CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $2,356,996
(sorry guys, spoilers don't work when I quote someone)

Obviously the lines are jumbled, but just an idea of players. Very, very possible, leaving us $2.35 in cap space to sign one forward. We're in no desperate need to get rid of cap space, and by the Crawford signing, I think Bowman has a decent idea of what the cap will look like next year. I'm not worried about shaving Hammer's deal, and would hate to see him go. I think he still has potential.

I would like to see Krueger in the AHL next season. He is not NHL ready, and I highly doubt he will be next year either. I would rather cut him off the roster, decide if Bolland is your #2 or #3 center, and sign the other one.

Disagree 100%. And I highly, highly doubt Kruger spends any time in the AHL. Bowman wanted Kruger on the roster at the beginning of LAST season, and has been said to have a really high learning curve. I don't think Kruger wants to play in the AHL, which he might have done last year had he stayed here instead of going overseas.

Bowman loves the kid. As do I. He showed lots of promise in that Vancouver series, and just needs time to adjust. A good offseason with the guys will be good for him and his game. He's been said 100 times to be like Dave Bolland, which I love. He gets a lot done without really being noticed. For his cap hit, keep him up with the Hawks.

You sir are correct. I have a feeling Bettman wished he had taken that $50mil hard cap not linked to league wide revenue the NHLPA had proposed. Lines between small market and large market are blurred because they are miles apart now.

Good news for the people of Winnipeg this morning on Victoria Day in Canada but not so good for Atlanta:

News coming out that Brian Rafalski will announce his retirement this week. Everyone thought Lidstrom would be the guy, and still might be. No one thought Rafi would be gone. Hello $6mil in cap space.

If Lidstrom leaves you go balls out and offer sheet Weber. They might also go trade route. They would have all kinds of money to work with. If he's back they still have good money and the kid Brendan Smith in Grand Rapids who's ready for the NHL. Will be an interesting summer for me.
