Anyone got an Apple TV? Curious on their thoughts on one, considering getting one, especially if the rumors of a new one coming soon are true.

Have one. We enjoy it. Our choice was between AppleTv and Roku. We went the AppleTv route because we have iEverything (computers, phones, tablets) and they all integrate seamlessly. If you don't have/use lots of apple products I believe the Roku is the way to go as it gives you more channels, etc.

There isn't much "free" anything on AppleTv except for YouTube. Everything else is pretty much a subscription based channel. Though it is nice if you buy movies/tv shows via iTunes as it's just a click away to watch on TV. Beware that if you rent something via iTunes and want to watch it on tv do it through the AppleTv. It won't let you rent it from the computer and then watch it on the TV without going through AirPlay (found that one out the hard way).

i agree with everything but the bold... you can mirror anything from OSX to apple TV. even your torrented movies in VLC.

but you might have a PC, so... yeah, that probably sucks.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. You can't rent a movie on iTunes on your computer and then hop on AppleTv and access your rental via the AppleTv in the same way as a purchase. Not without using AirPlay to mirror your computer.

You have to rent the movie on AppleTv if you want to access it through AppleTv alone.

Me and my girlfriend are both fully iEverything as well haha so integration isn't an issue. How well does the AirPlay work with vlc for pirated things? That + Netflix alone sounds wonderful, and the ability to stream vlc to the tv beats out say chromecast

AirPlay works pretty well. Occasionally I will have times where it just doesn't want to stay connected to the computer so you have to reconnect it once or twice. For the most part it's pretty stable though. We don't have cable, so yesterday I was watching football in the bedroom on the tv via streams on the computer, didn't have one hiccup.

    Re: The Apple Thread

Posted this on a Mac message board but haven't heard anything back yet, see if you guys have any advice...

Hi everybody, looking for some help if possible.

I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro that's starting to show it's age a bit, so I asked for some new RAM sticks for my bday to upgrade from 4GB to 8GB (the max for my machine). When doing the install last night, everything seemingly went fine until I started up the machine. I put in the 8GB, and when I go to start up the laptop, I get the Apple logo and the progress bar will make it about 1/3 of the way through before the screen goes black and then restarts the process. It just gets caught in a loop.

Thinking the RAM might be faulty, I messed around with it in different ports as well as mixing and matching with the old RAM. Basically each of the 4GB sticks works in either slot paired with one of my old 2GB sticks to give me 6GB, which is actually working nicely and showing a noticeable improvement, but I cannot get both 4GB sticks to work for the full 8GB of RAM that I was looking for.

Any idea what the deal is with this?

take it to the genius bar. if they work independently with the stock ram, no reason they shouldn't work together... idk.

Word, we've got a store right near my place now, so I'll probably swing by once this crazy snow dies down. It's just so bizarre, at least in the interim like I said I can have it running with 6gb, and it's definitely an improvement.

probably lost their steam. really should have had it's own unveiling party.

also... seems pretty lame for the price.

feels like this might be a rare apple flop.

Yeah I'm wondering if I even want one anymore. It's taken so long to release and I just don't have that Apple effect going now.

Apple pay is awesome, although I never use it. Apple watch on the other hand is no where near innovative. Its a bulky thing that barely has battery life. They are playing catchup now. I remember being excited when it made its debut, but after researching, I don't think it has many features, if any, that other smart watches can't already do.

So I JUST got my first iPad. I've been skeptical about it since they came out and had some rational reasons about not getting one. I played on my fiancé's a few weeks ago, saw the benefits of having one for work (and play) so I got me one. I love it now - just about every second I'm home or on break I'm playing on it.

It's just interesting that there is a smart watch market now. I remember how cool it was back in the day to have the watch with a calculator on it - felt like fuckin Star Trek.

Yeah, totes. It's great that there's a market at all, and it's just going to be getting better and better.

I'll be using Apple Pay a shit ton once my bank hops on the train and I can put my debit card in there, should be soon.

I've used it a few times so far with my Chase CC.
