As bad as Thin Red Line was, to me nothing illustrates how terrible Malick is like The New World.

The movie starred The Wind, as it blew through some fields.

To take the Jamestown story & turn it into that was a crime.

Yep, more gratuitous shots of wind blown trees and wide angle shots of blue skies in ToL.

I'll just go outside and stand in my backyard if I wanted to see trees blowing in the wind with the sky as a backdrop. It's pretty windy in my backyard. If I took video of that I'll post it here then you can call me a phenomenal film maker as well!!

Saw Imitation Game, liked it a lot. Story of Alan Turing was one that needed to be told. Very intriguing man. Wasn't expecting the emotional turn the movie took towards the end, though. Just have Selma and Theory of Everything left for the Best Picture nominees.

Correction, I also have Grand Budapest Hotel left, but that's on HBO Go, so I can watch it whenever.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Meant to go see Selma this afternoon, but fucked up and arrived to the theater about 15 mins in, so I decided to wait another day to see it, and watch another movie for the time being. Choices were between Paddington, Taken 3, and The Wedding Ringer (in that order as well). Was talked into seeing Taken 3 over Paddington by my coworker in the end though.

    http://i3.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/...10/390/2ba.gif

holy fuck balls that was horrible. 1st film of 2015 I see, and it's already the favorite to win (or lose?) Worst Film of the Year. Granted, I wasn't expecting anything to begin with, probably another mindless action movie, maybe give a 4-5/10 rating. I was wrong. Just after getting my ticket, I almost convinced myself to run down to the liquor store down the street to get some booze to help get through it, but shrugged it off last second. Apparently another one of many mistakes for me today.

    1.5/10

Great movie, I'm surprised I was in that much suspense just watching Robert Redford slowly drown over 90 minutes. I love survivalist movies, and this was one of the best and most realistic. Very few "Hollywood" moments, I kept waiting for stuff to pop out at me like every other tense movie.

Maybe I couldn't really come to love it because I couldn't relate to the upbringing at all. My parents are still divorced and I lived in the same house in the upper Midwest from the time I was 3 until I was 23. I enjoyed the movie fine enough, but I never really connected with it on a deeper level.

    This all of this.

Movie was better than I expected (thought it was the black sheep of the best picture nominations)

I think it fully deserves the nomination but not to win.

    Inherent Vice - 3/5

I love PTA but this movie really seemed to drag. Too many slow, quiet conversation scenes with one or more slightly incoherent characters. It seems like it could get better upon subsequent viewings, but maybe not. I still haven't been able to sit through The Master for an entire second viewing.
It felt like PTA's Big Lebowski, which should have been a dream for me, but unfortunately it was pretty forgettable, other than the Josh Brolin hippie abuse scenes.
