Re: **Official Snowboarding & Skiing Thread**

going to Quebec City and then mont tremblant to ski, on december 22nd. what are my chances of finding some weed in the city with me to take up to the mountain?

also, anyone ever drive anything over the boarder? sorry if this is too taboo for this thread, i could't find anywhere else to ask it, since the MJ thread disappeared.

You probably could drive something over the border easily, but that's a big fucking risk to take. Better off finding some up there

I hope tremblant has snow for you at that point! They didn't for me January 1-3 this year. Granted, it was a down year

Finally pulled the trigger on a splitboard setup. Hopefully the +1 doesn't check my credit card statement because I definitely didn't go for a budget friendly package...

dude nice. You guys have lots of good terrain out there and at least the snowpack is manageable.

Snowpack in CO has been sketchy as usual. classic slab problem, lots of wind loading from this last storm.

I haven't even gone on any tours yet this season. lots of skier triggered slides this weekend in Summit county. Maybe this weekend if things settle down.

Okay, I am officially happy to announce that I just booked my trip to Zermatt Switzerland for March 2017! This has been on my bucket list for skiing for a while! I will be there 3 nights and 4 days (coming off of a business trip to Lyon France the week before)!

Has anyone ever been? Advice? Even if you have not been, what would you do while there?

Our season doesn't usually last as long as yours, so we like the early snow fall! We also don't get the bluebird soft powder conditions you guys have! I'd like to squeeze in a trip to CO this year.

But the skiing has been great so far, which is so nice after 2-3 weak seasons. Went up to Mt. Baker last weekend and they had the deepest snow base in the country. Got 45 inches in two days. Snoqualmie (45 minutes from Seattle) already has night skiing open, so may go up one night this week. Love ski season!

Matterhorn! You're in for a treat! Being right on the borders, you can technically ski the Swiss Alps, French Alps, and Italian Alps all in the same day. It's very different from our skiing. Most of it is above the tree line with ropes marking runs, so if it's tracked out you can usually just slide under one of the ropes to find powder.

I studied in Lugano Switzerland for 3 years, so I ski'd Zermatt on July 1st one year and Thanksgiving weekend another. My Thanksgiving dinner consisted of Fondue, but be warned ordering it as it's smell can upset your neighbors!

That town is absolutely gorgeous. Grab some breakfast one morning and watch the goat herders herd the goats up the main road through town and out to the fields (if they are doing so at that time of year). Another thing I loved about that town is that they didn't allow gas powered vehicles in the city. All electric. So it's quieter and the snow stays white.

I'll see if I can dig up some more info. So jealous!

I've been fortunate enough to board in so many amazing places! I still need to hit up Idaho and Montana.

I'm staying local to mammoth this season but it looks like it's starting to be an amazing winter!

just bought me some new rome inferno snowboard boots - first time with this type of tie in. I'm looking forward to the split board evolution!

Snow has been so good in the Cascades this year. Bought a season pass last week, and broke my collar bone up there yesterday... such is life, eh?

Hoping I can recover in time to get some March/April skiing in.

Well Japan was amazing for skiing. Hanazono has some incredible trees and glades, with lots of fun cliffs and natural booters to hit. My brother and I lapped the same run almost 15 times one day, and saw nobody else on it, getting fresh tracks each time. It was like a dream come true.

    Cranmore NH?

it's a tiny place. at least you're getting some runs in late season. i havent been there in 10+ years so i cant offer much, except this anecdote:

a friend and i took our then g/f's there, this was probably 2005? i was the only one with any real experience, the other 3 were beginners. my buddy decides to try snowboarding. i told all of them not to try and keep up with me, but that i'd wait for them at each major trail junction, chair lift, etc.

on the FIRST RUN, i cruise down the green circle and get to the bottom and wait. and wait. and wait. and wait. probably 20 minutes go by, and i'm wondering where the hell my group is. i decide that maybe they went to a different chair, so i jump in the singles line and get going. i'm about to get onto the chair when i look at the chalkboard they had right near the front of the line and it said "<mr. testaverde> please report to first aid" never a good sign when you're paged to first aid. so i went and it turns out my buddy fell on the first run and busted up his arm pretty good. we went to the hospital with him, he got a cast, and i dont think he's gone snowboarding or skiing every since

my season is likely over went 2.5 times. the 0.5 was a 2 hour jaunt at a small local hill called Ski Bradford. went to killington a few Sundays ago, it never got above single digit temperatures . good day though, went with 2 buddies who are at the same talent level as me, so it was just go-go-go all day AND it was pretty empty due to the temps

was at okemo last sunday with my wife and my buddy, his wife, and his dad. GREAT day on the mountain, high 30's and sunny, soft snow. if that was my last time out this season, that was the perfect day

my season is likely over went 2.5 times. the 0.5 was a 2 hour jaunt at a small local hill called Ski Bradford. went to killington a few Sundays ago, it never got above single digit temperatures . good day though, went with 2 buddies who are at the same talent level as me, so it was just go-go-go all day AND it was pretty empty due to the temps

was at okemo last sunday with my wife and my buddy, his wife, and his dad. GREAT day on the mountain, high 30's and sunny, soft snow. if that was my last time out this season, that was the perfect day
Hey there - great story on your friend...hope everything turned okay for him, which I presume he was eventually fine. Yeah, I think people try the bunny hill or whatever to get acclimated and feel they can move on to the next level, and it's tough man. You need to know what to do.

So I haven't skied in probably 5 years and my buddies from high school get together every year in NH. This year they picked a place near Cranmore, so I went up on Friday night and skied Saturday morning.

It is small, but I had a lot of fun. The mountain had plenty of snow, many of the trails were fun but chill and the mountain was not packed. I got there about 830am Saturday morning and I literally think about 15 cars were in the whole lot and maybe 40 or so people on the whole mountain at that point, including workers. By 1030am several hundred showed up.

I like the mountain a lot and there's plenty of trails to go through, although I did a half-day and my legs were hurting at that point as I'm out of shape. It's like a mile from the Muddy Moose restaurant. But I wish there were more signs to follow to the mountain cause you can get lost easily.

Some guy who works the mountain wanted to sell me a ticket for half price because he gets comp tickets and they don't make much money, but I didn't know if he was an undercover cop or not so didn't bite.

They're open for maybe one or two more weeks as it snowed on Thursday into Friday and had new stuff.

    Good times.

Yeah. Pretty accurate. We rent a house with friends over MLK weekend that's about a 2 minute drive to Cranmore. Small mountain, but still pretty fun. From first chair-10ish it's not bad, then the place packs in. I've gone a few years by myself and haven't had to share a chair for the first 2 hours or so of a holiday weekend.

I'm the only one of m group skiing at my level, so it's where I usually bring people who haven't been doing it for as long. It's a good learning mountain without much challenging terrain. Fun if you're looking to just get out there, but if you're looking to push yourself you'll want to find somewhere different.
