Magazine Articles/Reviews

Weird that I haven't seen any magazine articles or reviews posted on the album so far? We are less than a month away from the release now, with previous albums it seemed that there were plenty of reviews coming out before the release with little tidbits of info and details about songs, etc....maybe that will be coming in the next couple weeks, has anyone read any reviews so far, I can't find a single one?

not that I care what the critics think, because they are often way off on their dmb album reviews....but it's always fun to read and get excited about the album/different songs

I think the reviewers forgot a new DMB album was coming out. I can't blame them, I feel the same way at this point.

no kidding...it's like we are wandering through the desert. How many months have they been sitting on a finished album now?

About a month or two ago, Rolling Stone had a *very short* blurb-article-thing about "Gaucho", they seemed to think it was pretty damn good. I imagine we'll see a DMB cover story sometime in the near future.

I don't know if this is what you're talking about, but here is a Rolling Stone review of Gaucho: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/so...aucho-20120605

I keep checking their site for a review of Mercy, but they seem to be ignoring it. They reviewed the new Mumford single almost as soon as it was released

Yep, that's the bit I was talking about. And you're right, kind of surprised they haven't commented on "Mercy" yet.

Album reviews usually don't hit until the week before or the week of the release.

I remember hearing Big Whiskey probably a month before the release when the April sessions leaked....but I had been reading articles and reviews on the album well before I had actually heard the songs...but maybe the timing was off there cause of the initial April release date that was pushed back?

While searching for EW's review of Mercy I stumbled across their album reviews for DMB. Stand Up is highest rated with an A-, Everday gets a D and BTCS gets a B-.

Have you read the "user comments" on that video? I swear it's a bunch of RCA marketing dept. employees... here's a sample:

"Wow! just from hearing the riff, I'm already looking forward their new album "Away From the World" out 9/11. You can pre-order their album on their site here http://www.davematthewsband.co..."

No way that's a random comment.

I know right! That guy was a straight asshole. If he doesn't like the band that's fine but there is no need to bash the fans do relentlessly. I don't care at all for nickelback or beiber etc. but I don't spend any of my time bashing them or their fans. What a waste of energy on his part.

I wrote that dude back with this:

For someone like me and most of my friends and family, DMB in the 90's were irrelevant to us. DMB now, in their more rock'esque era is far more appealing to me then anything from the 90's. Your problem with DMB is not seeing them in other venues. The venues themselves can make or break a show. If you traveled to Saratoga Performing Arts Center or the Gorge to see the band, you could not but help the effervescence of your surroundings (If you call yourself a true music fan). Also, I would like to add the fact that DMB is not a mainstream act and get hardly any consistent radio play. With that said, they still are one of the top touring acts every year in the USA. DMB is a lifestyle to hard-cores, much like the dead heads back in the day. We care about Greening efforts because the band cares about them. We care about recycling because the band cares about recycling. It goes beyond just the music. That is what you must realize.

Just my opinion..and when I said irrelevant back then, its because I didn't know about them. And I say "like the rock esque" because everyone I know now started liking them religiously after Big Whiskey and Timmy touring.

Ha, that's awesome. I bet the author of that column secretly wishes people thought of him as a hipster but no one (outside of his mom) does because the most obscure / indie band he can name is the Black Keys.

By the way... I'm fresh off of a hiatus from the boards after finally breaking out of a dead beat job that kept me at jobsites for 3 years. Now I'm at another dead beat job, but with lots of down time and a computer. So please welcome me back gently. I know you will all probably be ripping at me behind your screens, but hey, at least I'm not the guy posting my phone number all over the place...
