Non DMB Related- Is OAR worth seeing live?

See that OAR just announced their summer tour. Are they worth a love show? Like some of their music so just curious on people’s experiences.

I haven't been to a show since 2011, but before that I probably saw they 30 times. I always had fun and enjoyed the music. I say go!

Yup. They're great. The set will be a solid mix of their biggest hits and fan favorites. The band is solid, they've got a great brass section, and the shows are a lot of fun.

First time I saw them was at the Carvan and knew nothing about them. I left as a fan and try to see them whenever they come to town. They honestly never disappoint and if you're in the NYC area, def go see them at Pier 17. That venue is top notch for a summer night concert. Little more pop-oriented than DMB but they do have some great jams.

Don't do it. I saw a ton of concerts last year and they were by far the worst. Best way I could explain their live show would be "imagine your cocky asshole dentist got a few of his friends together and decided they were good enough to be a band, then they decided they could totally do reggae." Its bad. There was one point where I physically couldn't cringe any harder. If it's like a $10-15 ticket go do it just to know for sure, but don't spend more than $20 on them. It's not worth it. Best thing they have is Crazy Game of Poker and when they played it it was like they themselves couldn't buy it. They sound awful

See them every time they come to NJ/NY, this is a great synopsis. I find their concerts a lot of fun, typically great energy and upbeat.

The one trumpet player that dances the entire show is annoying, but they always put on a good show. As other have said, similar but different sets every night and I like their sound. Going to see them at Ravinia for sure in August, always a fun time.

I thought they were pretty good I wouldn't travel to the Gorge to see them, but would happy to see them locally if someone bought me a ticket and drove me there.

Saw them a bunch 10-12 years ago and had blast. Then saw them a few years after and it was awful.

Saw them again 2 years ago and had a blast.

Personally I think they found their lane again and stick with it. Nothing mind blowing but a really fun time!

Their new stuff is pretty cringeworthy. I can’t make it through a single song. In hindsight, I’m not sure any of their lyrics have ever been great (except maybe About an Hour Ago and a few other as folks have mentioned).

Still, their shows are great and they don’t force a ton of the new stuff. They play their hits, are receptive to requests, and generally rock live.

I read somewhere they close every show with That Was a Crazy Game of Poker which I think is hilarious

They are probably my wife's favorite band. We usually see them every year. Always a good time. They are very high energy and really get the crowd involved.

We went to the Big Night Out Tour with them and Goo Goo Dolls this past summer. We really only cared for GGD, totally indifferent about OAR, and this was the show where they actually swapped the set order since MD was OAR’s home show, so they played second. We left after GGD and was surprised with how many others had the same idea. Take that FWIW.

They were fun back in the early 2000's but I wouldn't waste my time or money on them now. You talk about a band going through the motions. The bassist look like he was about to get a root canal the last time I saw them (probably in the 2010 to 2012 timeframe).

Don’t really listen to them anymore but 34th and 8th and Any Time Now are fun live albums. Hard to believe they are ~20 yrs old though.

The opened for DMB at the Gorge in 2008. Was not that impressed, but at the time they had a passionate fan base.

Also judging an act based on an opener slot isn't always fair, but had they impressed me I might have gone and seen them. I've done that with a lot of opening acts.

thats how I got into Ben Harper. Literally heard the last couple songs when he was opening for DMB in 96 and it stuck with me until I looked up who he was and bought the album. Although I mean Ground on Down is amazing so who wouldn't fall in love with them after seeing that live.

Fight For Your Mind is a great album. If you don't have it go listen.

The word “cringe” may be the most cringe word that ever existed. It’s so overused.

OAR is cool. I only saw them once almost 20 years ago at Water Street Music Hall here in Rochester. The set was identical to Any Time Now but they were a lot of fun live. I still like listening to their music and MSG is one of my favorite live recordings out there.

Welp, I guess it was OVER 20 years ago and the set was NOTHING like Any Time Now…

    Fun nonetheless.
