Correct! (I'm an audio engineer). Speaker placement, wouldn't change much from year to year so for every venue that they've been to a few times they should have a mix they are comfortable with saved and all they have to do is load it up.
Having said that, all sorts of other things can have a small effect on the sound. Not really a big deal until you add fifty small effects and end up with a big difference in sound. I noticed that the sound at about half of the shows I went to was pretty lackluster. Nothing really shined except Carter's kick and Tim's guitar was far too shrill many times. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the hell out of all the shows, but man would I give anything to mix for them for just one song haha.
