What's good Adam? I'm just living life, how's things with you?

Looks like the prompter is gone again? I guess The 'ol hat shitter opened it so he could voice his own opinions during the election season and promptly closed house afterwards. Probably bitter about the results and/or someone who made him look like a vagina-wagon.

I've been hearing Bernanke won't take a third term for a while. I'd like to see him at least take another 4 after this term - let the economy get a little closer to trend. Anyways, I'm just waiting for his memoirs - they'll be interesting to say the least.

Maybe Yellen, she'd be good. Barry might bring back Christy Romer. I just hope it isn't Summers.

48 isn't being divided by (2*12) it's being divided by 2 then multiplied by 12. You seem to be making it (2*12) when really it's 2*(12)

But you have to multiply what's outside of the parentheses before you do anything else. Then you divide 48 by 24.

I will give you that it is a big confusing. I take back the trolling comment. The way it's written though, it's 288.

Since there's a division sign, you can also write it as a fraction. Solve the numerator and denominator separately, then divide.

But whenever there's a number outside of the parentheses, you must multiply by what's inside. Then you divide.

No you don't. When something is written beside something in parentheses it's an implied multiplication sign but it doesn't take the parentheses (inside) order of operations. If you don't believe me, type it in your calculator.

That's hilarious. I had no clue there would be a calculator that would do this. Lol sharp. I see that your trolling now because on the last page you admitted it was 288. I don't feel like uploading it, but I just checked and both my TI calculators say 288.

Weird. Only way a calculator would give me the answer 2 is 48/(2(9+3)). And that's because it does what's inside the parenthesis first.

    Just for fun...

Make a simple U-Substitution. Let U=(9+3). So we get 48/2U. That reduces to 24/U. Now plug (9+3) back in for U. We get 24/(9+3) or 24/12=lne^2....better know as 2!!!

Lol u-sub. Why did you keep the division sign after you divided? When you substitute in for a parentheses term in a math problem written in line form you have to add a multiplication sign for it to truly make sense. It's 48/2*U not 48/(2*U).

You keep the division sign when you cancel out like terms. Like if you have ab/ac, that reduces to b/c. Or if you have 2(a+b)/5(a+b), that reduces to 2/5.

    people still arguing over this?

it can technically be both, but the way it's written, you are typically supposed to follow PEMDAS, which comes out to 288.

In Pemdas the M and D and A and S are supposed to be the same step done from left to right.

There's no definitive answer because it's a poorly formed problem. It could be rewritten in two ways that give different results.
