Pit Procedure

When entering the pit at a show, how do they mark your ticket to make sure you only get one wristband? I've heard that they punch a hole in it, but I like to keep my tickets in pretty good condition - especially if it's a warehouse ticket. Also, I usually throw my ticket in my poster tube to keep it in undamaged - will I need to show ticket and wristband or just wristband if I leave and re-enter the pit?

As long as you have a baby with you you're fine.

Seriously though, I've never done pit so I'm not sure.

It's different at every venue. Most put a large mark on the ticket with a Sharpie and give you a wristband. Some people will ask to see both when coming and going into the actual pit.

Babies don't need tickets or wristbands though so bring a friend's baby for free. The parents will thank you later.

As mentioned it is different all over.
I have seen them mark the ticket and hole punch it.
Sometimes they just want to see the band and other times both but never just the ticket.

All the venues I've been to seem to mark the ticket with a marker, always has been on the back of the ticket.

Only been in one pit (unless you count a stadium). In Bristow they punched a hole in the ticket and gave me a wristband. I left two or three times for the bathroom. The first time they didn't even stop us on the way back. Second and third times I held up my arm. To be honest, I was drunk going into the show and didn't notice the hole in the ticket (WH ticket) until the next day. It's just a little notebook paper sized hole. Ticket is still pretty.

At Bristow a couple weekends ago they just looked at my Pit ticket and said, "you're good, we'll give you a wristband later". It was like 5 minutes before the band took the stage, I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

They'll punch a hole in the baby if you prefer so that the ticket can be saved as a souvenir. Babies are 1-1 trades for souvenirs in DMB pits.

Some shows will mark it on the back for you as they did in Tuscaloosa for me last year, just request it.

Been in pit at c'ville, jiffy lube and camden. All times, they marked my ticket with the sharpie and gave me the wristband. I never needed to show the ticket again - just the wristband.

Never had to show both ticket and wristband in the past. This year was in Woodlands, Dallas and OKC pits. Only needed to show wristband.

Marking varies by venue. Sometimes hole punch. Most of the time sharpie. Somtimes front of ticket (have to ask them not to mark over any print) sometimes on the back.

    Re: Pit Procedure

I was on the floor in Moline this past week, and they just marked the back with a sharpie. I wasn't too upset since it was just a Ticketmaster ticket, not WH. I got a lame plain blue wristband though, and it seemed like everyone got those too - I was hoping to get one of the fancy wristbands with shiny "Dave Matthews Band" lettering that I've seen pictures of. Are those fancy wristbands only for people with Warehouse floor tickets? Or does this, again, just vary by venue?

Varies by venue. Got the fancy wristbands at Woodlands and Dallas. Plain blue ones for the OKC floor.

At Camden this year (don't remember ever seeing or hearing this before), they actually asked for your ticket upon returning from concessions or bathrooms. I don't think it was everyone because I just showed my wrist band. However others told us they were asked for their ticket and then actually had the smaller portion torn off. Many people were not happy their ticket was ripped.

What's a reasonable time to show up and wait for pit (front) at Tampa? Gates open at six and band comes out at eight, correct?
