Boyd. Every solo he plays sounds the same. I especially dislike when he goes into hoe down mode. Jeffs the same. the first year I think he thought it was his band. Every freaking song had a the same 10 minute sax solo. Following leroi is impossible but could have done better than Jeff. What's up with Boyd kissing Dave on the mouth. I can never unsee that.

This has nothing to do with anything. Technical skills for the sake of technical skill doesn't make you good musician if it lacks personality and soul. Take the LL for example all proficient professional singers but they don't make their living singing original music. They sing canned back up lyrics for other artists.

I don't want to hear fonz or any other member of the band play some boring but technically difficult piece if it doesn't fit the flow of the song or the vibe dmb creates.

The LL's aren't that technically proficient as it is. They're good enough. They're nothing special.

And fonzs talent is far more than just being able to play notes correctly. His ability to stay with carter and still give rashawn/Boyd/Tim/Jeff/Dave something to play off is unreal.

Right, fonz is I credible and what he does in the band can't be overstated. His fit in this band and how he keeps everything going is incredible.

I brought them in as an example of technically proficient performers that don't add anything to the sound. Because someone said that fonz didn't do much "hard" stuff to show his technical profiency.

Has nothing to do with talent ... I would rather see a Dave solo acoustic show (where I can play every song myself) over a Rodrigo y Gabriella show, Tim solo show, you name it. Dave has an unbelievable ability to write songs that make you feel something, his songwriting ability is off the charts. Think of it this way, here are my top 5 favorite DMB songs:

Bartender - not hard
Seek Up - not hard
Lie In Our Graves - not hard
Dreaming Tree - not hard if you know how to count
Two Step - not hard

There is a big difference between playing things that are hard and having musical talent, Dave runs circles around Boyd.
