You beat me to it. I was going to say it sounded like Dave saw Jason Mraz last night and got inspired.

Remember when a new song meant Bartender, Grey Street, Grace Is Gone, You Never Know, Crazy Easy...?

its kindof funny that a some of dave's lyrics are on the cheesy side ... (thought there are a lot of great ones on BW and AFTW) theres that clip from the making of BTCS when hes like I know I'm done when my lyrics don't make me go ewwwww.....maybe he can channel some of 98 Dave? I know he tries and he's happy so it's harder to write amazing lyrics but I wonder what he thinks with this...it must be somewhat on purpose...the whole simplicity/repetition thing. He's admitted to repeating himself.

    Re: Plastic Girl

The new stuff isn't as good as the music Dave wrote in the 90's that got us all into the band, sure. But I admire the band for coming out with new stuff every year and not giving up to just play out what they've played a thousand times.

Throughout the years it seems the new songs have been getting more and more mellow, which makes sense. I have no need to lambast them for doing their job and being musicians. I've seen some "average" shows on paper which have still been amazing live experiences. I say keep on keeping on, DMB. Play what you want and I'll keep coming back to enjoy seeing it live.

Agreed. Didn't hate it at the show. After watching the good video out there, I think to myself, "why on earth did you think this was ok. The bridge is awful terrible... Pretty (bad), Pretty (bad), Pretty (bad), Pretty (bad), Pretty (bad), Pretty (bad)"

Let's not compare this song to recently.

Is it me or is the end guitar chords almost exactly like monkey man ending guitar jam?

Anyways the song is not worse then be yourself, cant stop or hunger.

Lyrics are, well forced i guess. The bridge is terrible but the vibe, melody of the song is in the right direction. This seems like blackjack where dave wrote lyrics to it before the show because he liked the music so much. Doesnt seem finished lyrically. Rewrote the lyrics over the music and it will change night and day i think.

Oh good god. No, she didn't "compare" it to Recently. Just noted the similarity of repetition with "pretty."

Damn, I know the groupthink around here is strong but chill. Although to be fair, I haven't listened to Plastic Girl yet. I'll give it a listen. I might be back in a few with a pitchfork.

In the pretty girl outro he only says pretty twice at a time. This is pretty several times for no reason.

true. this is what i think too. a couple times is fine and has a nice catchy ring with pretty pretty girl i.e. recently..but just pretty pretty pretty repeating repeating repeating is meh

however, i do like she said she said yeaaaaa....for some reason i think it builds suspense and that repetition works in that context.
    ah well.

Ok, so it wasn't great. Musically it was alright. Liked the outro. Lyrically, umm, needs work.

    This.

Donut Feed gets set list peeks, that's why.

Also agree it's tough to be a girl here, but anyway, at the risk of unsettling the pack, this ain't half bad, people. Im\\ho. Little nervous about what I hear as radiohead influence, bridge broken, lyrics unfinished-- which is sad because it seems like songs that start this way often get left this way-- but the beginning sounds fresh, vulnerable, potentially meaningful to me. Just needs a little lotta work.

I hear air play with a message.

On first listen, I liked it. But I could be jaded by the fact that the lyrics reminded me so much of kit kat jam from gorge 02 (one of my all time favorite songs/performances) that I was really into it. Jam at the end was cool. Will need to give a number of listens and see if that holds up.

    Samurai cop still slays.

Wasn't blown away seeing it last night, but definitely felt it was musically enjoyable. Upon a listen this morning, I definitely like the vibe and really dig the outro. This thread had me laughing uncontrollably. Certainly not worse than Cant Stop, BlackJack, or Be Yourself. Oh Ants...
