Yeah but the reason we thought he would say that time & time again was because his wife is from Atlanta. Sucks to know it's just a stage phrase 😏

I thought STL did better than 11k, just over half full. Finally getting a weekend show there turned out to not really help.

I don't even mind the new stuff. It's the other 18 filler songs in the set where 10-12 of them will be the same ones every night or two.

Wichita, KS - Intrust Bank Arena
    4,993/10,798 - $351,927

Saw them play here a few years back when I lived down south, said I would never go back to that venue. The crowd was much bigger when I went but security in that place SUCKS! Jackass security guard took my drum stick that Carter tossed, my bad for dropping but he snatched it right up and took off to the back. They were tossing people for nothing. Maybe that's why nobody shows up to that place. Just my 2 cents!

Security was so much better thus time around. I don't know if it had something to do with the venue being new or what? And for what it's worth there were more than 5k at the show that is for sure. Defiantly not 8k like the news paper reported.
I hope Kansas City pulls through though. I don't want both my cities to never be played again.

He's said it at many, many venues over the years, including Camden '13 and WPB '13. He says it if the band has friends/family/guests at a show.

More sets like last night and I'll be amongst the exodus of DMB fans leaving for greener pastures when it comes to spending $ on concerts.

Hartford last night was nothing to write home about either. I was there and the show never picked up. PM>Crash, space between, out of my hands, if only... It's not helping that 80% of the songs were played in the last 2 shows. Pig was the highlight of the show.

Destination venues for the dedicated fanbase will do well as they have the last few years, but without new music and the fact they tour every year, how do you drum up interest? A new record (as long as it's not absolutely terrible) at least gets people to say "oh I want to check these guys out, haven't seen them in a while." There's literally no incentive for a more casual fan to catch a show right now. The break next year will be good for the following year, and new music that's solid will also help.

Name another band that tours every year and doesn't really release music that would be capable of pulling in better...it doesn't exist
The closest example would probably be Phish as they've released the same number of albums (five) as DMB has this century. Granted Phish doesn't put up the same overall dollar amount as DMB but that's because Phish doesn't play as many shows. Also Phish was on hiatus/done for 6 of the past 16 years but hopefully you catch my drift.

But yeah I don't know if Phish played the same number of shows as DMB if they could do better. And Phish has released a couple of crap albums since they've come back so that hasn't turned too many people away.

When it comes to DMB I don't know what percentage of the fanbase checks setlists every night and makes up their mind on whether or not to attend. I don't worry about what they've played only what's played at the shows I attend.

But interests change over time. DMB used to be the "party" concert in the early 00s. Now it seems like country shows are filling that role.

Realize it's not outside, but I'm sure they could do 12-15,000 at the Target Center or Xcel Center here in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Why go to Wichita instead?

In fact, why not try outside at Target Field (Twins baseball stadium) instead? Would they not be able to draw enough for that?

I've seen them play here four times since 2005 (the only times they've come here), and they always draw a pretty big crowd. Around 15,000 would be my guess for the last couple arena shows, maybe even more than that when they played an outdoor festival here a few years ago.

I just get ticked because we seem to get skipped over quite a bit. I'm too old and lazy to make the 5-hour trip to Alpine these days!

13,655 last year in St. Paul

pretty close to 15k but still not close to a sell out..which is common nowadays for DMB

DMB are usually always removed after a week or so from being on the billboard attendance list.

    why?

    not a damn clue

I've said it before, just follow the Phish model. They're not getting any new fans so play to your core where you know you can come close to selling out.

Have to say after seeing PNC, Great Woods, and Hartford...maybe the two set thing is better for the band. They might need a chill first set, a break, then come back for their electric. I feel the full electric set gasses them, which is prob why we get so many standards/repeats, one song encores, etc. Carter et al is getting up there in age.

You don't have to sell out a show in order to make money. I am not sure why so many people on this site don't seem to understand this.

As far as the band, or the venue? I would think the venue would suffer much more than the band...from what ive read, the money big acts make is actually more than what the face value of all the tickets add to.

The venue revenue is what I think would suffer...parking, concessions, etc.

    Simple.

    People are morons.

I'm willing to bet the band makes plenty even at these venues that are only half full. They either have a guarantee that is more or selling half is still profitable.

When I click on the link, I do not see any information on DMB. Am I not looking in the right spot?

I'm willing to bet the band makes plenty even at these venues that are only half full. They either have a guarantee that is more or selling half is still profitable.

Do you think that guarantee is just a number DMB makes up and venues agree to irrespective of anything in the world?

Or do you think maybe that venues take into account attendance when offering what to pay bands to come there?

Are there other acts that are typically out-selling DMB at most of their "standard" venues? The really big acts aren't playing amphitheaters or small arenas. I would imagine that with food, parking, etc, DMB might be one of their best weekends or nights of the season.

Even at 4,993 - that might be the record for the season in Wichita
