He doesn't take offense to it, nor do I. As I've said that's what's great about Mayer, he's got the kind of range that goes so far, one end of his fanbase will love it while the other half hates it.

I think the RFS/Continuum thing has to do a lot with when they came out. I was a junior in HS when Room For Squares came out. That type of music and those lyrics spoke to me. Continuum came out when I was a junior in college. I was a little (emphasis on a little) more mature, I was in a different emotional state, I matured musically myself as well having just picked up a guitar a few years prior after being a percussionist since age 10.

I personally prefer Continuum to RFS but they are both fantastic albums. I also know that a lot of my friends finally came around on John at the time of Continuum. The same friends that were just bitching about him being a Dave Matthews ripoff. But again, could just be the time periods.
Nah I wasn't really taking offense I just don't know if as a general matter that an opinion can be "weird", different yes but I would never say someone's opinion is weird because it's different than mine, idk.

It was actually a big sentiment right when John Mayer hit the scene. I think because at the time DM had just come out with Everyday, which was obviously his most mainstream pop/rock work to date, which was a space JM was filling as well with Room for Squares. I haven't heard it at all really since that time, but I remember hearing a lot of people talk about John Mayer as the next Dave Matthews in the early 2000's.

Really?? I've heard it hundreds of times. And tbh when he first came out that was part of the reason why I totally ignored him and wrote him off. Like someone else mentioned earlier about their friend, I didn't come around on him until Continuim. Couldn't stand Bigger than my body and Your body is a Wonderland (still can't tolerate the latter) because they sounded like complete DMB ripoffs. For me it was Continuim and the John Mayer Trio album that made it click for me. Before those two I paid him no mind. And then I saw him on the Continuim tour and I was hooked. Which is good because then came Battle Studies which to me was a huge step back from Continuim but I was already sold so it didn't really matter at that point.

He's not a Dave Matthews rip off, but let's be real Dave was a huge influence of the late 90's/early 2000's acoustic rock surge. John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Dashboard Confessional, etc

He was definitely an inspiration, but everyone thought at the time that he was just trying to find success by mimicking Dave. Which is why when Continuum came out (and it blew away anything DMB had done since 1998) people gained a lot of respect for him.

    Wait. What.

DMB being a huge influence on Dashboard and its popularity. I can't let that one slide.

If anyone is planning on seeing Mayer or Dead & Co this summer, from May 2nd to the 9th, Live Nation is doing no fees $20 dollars tickets, along with other acts. Assuming they're for lawn.

Unfortunately not GA field...those are still like $150 or something ridiculous. It's for GA stands in the endzone/back sideline sections of Folsom. Still you can get two tickets for $100, which is less than one field/reserved for a single show.

I just copped $20 lawn tickets for JM using Livenation's $20 ticket promo for national concert day. If you have AT&T, they give you an early access code to get the tickets: https://frontoftheline.att.com/

Seems like it's only for certain venues. Dead & Co only shows the PA show. Then JM has a lot more but not Gorge, and I'm assuming there are others not there.

Hopefully it's just the AT&T presale that's sold out, and more will be available tomorrow for the full LN sale?

Nice! No problem! Honestly a really cool thing for them to do, and I was shocked at how easy it was. It took me all of about 1-2 minutes to go through the whole process. Super quick, and a killer price for tickets

So I guess In the Blood was released to country radio. Don't think it was in the plan from the get-go, but apparently it was receiving a bunch of unsolicited radio plays from country DJs, so Sony just decided to capitalize on it and release it as an official country single. Very interesting.

Looks like a band called The Night Game. They appear to have released only one song and it is decidedly un-Dawes-like.

I saw that one Spotify too. I looked all the similar acts and was really disappointed. Didn't even listen to the one track. Oh well, gives me more drive time to get there.

Ok I think I just had a spiritual listening of In The Blood. I'm really starting to like it. Noticed the female backing vocals that come in right before the bridge for the first time just now...I really like that.

Changing is such a buzzkill song after In The Blood, especially since they're basically both talking about life/growth.

I MUCH prefer Changing to In the Blood. At least there's some life interjected in it with that outro.

Where are you seeing the openers? I just bought tickets for the Raleigh show and the info on LN just has Mayer and nothing else. My other orders list the openers. Are there some shows with no openers?
