Re: Your 2024 concerts
Got waitlisted for Olivia Rodrigo and am completely unsurprised. I believe we're in the early stages of the collapse (or potential rebirth) of the concert industry.
Between the impossibility to get tickets to Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo, and the exorbitant prices we're seeing for other artists, I don't see how the industry can sustain. My dad wants to come up to see Kansas while they're in town on their 50th Anniversary tour so I started looking for tickets. Half the venue is unsold and tickets are $$250-$75. Unless you're in the very top balcony where you can hardly see the stage and those tickets are $54 pre-fees. Stevie Nicks tickets are $200 just for mediocre seats in the upper deck of an arena. Stevie Nicks is well past her prime talent-wise and Kansas is...they have two great songs.
I've dropped mad cash on concerts, but these prices are ludicrous. Who they hell is paying $200 to see Kansas in 2023? I've heard the argument that prices are being set based on the secondary market because it proves what buyers are really willing to pay, thus the artists are actually losing revenue for charging the fans less. While some partially accurate, it's only focusing on one side of the argument. Fans have no other choice. Hence why you see Kansas with a half empty theater on what could be a celebratory tour for their legacy.
I'm just not seeing how this can continue. /rant
