Revolutionary Road: The acting was superb. It seems Kathy Bates has really grown into her age with grace and embraced the idea of playing the old lady. She's amazing. Leo and Kate are great. Kate Winslet is just about as perfect a woman as god makes (not her character.) The psychological elements in this film are terribly intriguing. Don't go see it if you're wanting to feel good about yourself, need cheering up or are looking for a cheap thrill. It's real and trying. The situations, emotions and circumstances are sugar free. Terrifyingly honest at times. But authentic none-the-less. There are times when the story drags a bit and becomes muddled in a bit of redundancy. I need to see it again, but still a really good movie not doubt. 8.5-10

Pretty much sums up my feelings. Very well done.

On the other hand, a little while ago I posted in here that I was surprised that Wicker Park got as poor reviews as it did. I watched it again, and I have no idea what I was seeing the first time. The acting sucks, the dialogue sucks, and the only cool thing about the story is the way it's told.

Rented Max Payne last night. Was not good. Good cinematic elements but the plot sucked and was just overly rushed.

I like it less the more I think about it. I can't really think of one scene from that movie that had me laughing hysterically, and I only saw it a month ago.

Burn after reading 7/10. Meh effort by the Coens. I thought it dragged. Shallow character development and plot, just an overall blah movie, Ill try it again in a few weeks, but I just couldnt seem to get into it.

I watched it 3 times over Christmas Break and find it to be Will Ferrell's best effort since Anchorman.

God, it's one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen, but I love it so much.

That's because it's not a shitty sports movie, a la Talladega Nights, Semi Pro, Kicking & Screaming and Blades of Glory. They're all pretty much the same movie.

    W. - 6/10.

It's nothing wonderful, but it was slightly engaging. Brolin did a great job, I always enjoy his acting. I have to say there were parts where you really sympathize for W. My biggest complaint is that the film really drags out in the second half after a great start. Shame.

The City of Lost Children - Might be the most fucked up film I've ever seen. I can't even begin to know what to really think of it, but the story was pretty lost on me. No rating, just clueless with this one.

    Elevating the Oscar winners

    by Roger Ebert

My annual Outguess Ebert contest will kick off Feb. 8. That's when I do my best to accurately predict the Oscars, combining info, instinct, and the various odds. Today I'm starting an experiment with a much different approach. In a series of five articles, I will abandon all logical thought and focus entirely on my emotions.

Of course I can't know how deeply anyone else felt about this years nominees. I'm going to try predicting the winners entirely on the basis of my feelings. No "reasoning." No scuttlebutt. Not even any discussion of the other nominees. Just Elevation. Here goes:

    Part #1: Best Motion Picture

    Part #2: Best Leading Actor

Obviously, I'll post the rest as they appear.
