Honestly running 1 or 2 miles doesn't take long, so if you can get in the habit of getting up and doing it before work, that would be good. Just get it done with. Once you start doing more miles you'll probably want to put it off till later. Becoming a serious runner takes committment. Finding the time to train causes your whole life style to switch.

One other piece of advice I have is to start off running on a track because it's so much easier on your legs. Once you build up some staminia running in circles gets bored, but I would run there until you get bored.

I'd also suggest joining a gym. Running everyday will kill you, but you can do some additioal low impact work.

I just did my first workout at the gym yesterday, and I am paying for it today.

I worked with a trainer, one free session came with the sign up. He kicked my ass. I did legs and some ab work. I didn't feel that bad yesterday, but last night at about 3, I could feel the effects starting to take hold.

I know that this discomfort will last a few sessions, but the end result will be well worth it. If this can help me with my leg kick and strenght during my runs, then it will be well worth it.

I ran three miles over the weekend, and now I could only do one today. It was quite frustrating.

I here you there. I have found that is all about rest. When I started, I pushed to hard and paid for it. So I scaled back and am having greater success.

That doesn't sound very good man. Get in and get it checked out. Last thing you want to do is make it worse.

Hope that it is just a little something, and not a bigger issue.

well, it wasn't too bad seeing as how it was the first day, but still, I'm outta shape (relatively speaking). We ran probably about 5 miles. It's the morning AND evening practices that are going to kill me

I'm going to. My brother is a trainer, and he thinks it has something to do with my sciatic nerve. I think it has something to do with my hip flexer. I can't really pinpoint where the pain is, which makes it hard to explain to someone. It also doesn't hurt all the time which makes it even harder to figure out.

    Thanks

I've been dealing with them for years. There are too many to list here. I've had a stress fracture, heel spurs, and now this.

I think I'm going to be told that the running has to stop pretty soon.

I've got bad running genes. My dad is 53, and he's headed towards knee replacement and according to one of my brother's professors he has the worst joints of anyone they have ever seen.

fortunately, I've only had 1 major injury (knock on wood) and it wiped me out for just about my whole track season two year ago-- a stress fracture in my toe. it was funny getting PT on my toe...

I had one in my shin, that I got training for baseball as strange as that sounds. Our coach believed running kids to death was a good way to start the season. It actually probably lead to me tearing my rotator cuff later that summer, which ended my baseball career.

that really sucks. so did you just run for other sports, or did you ever run as the sport itself, track & CC?

I ran when I was little through junior high when I was forced to make a decision. My growth spurt basically made the decision for me, because distance running was what I did well, but I was no longer built for it.

I do it now because I enjoy it.

A lot of my friends in college went for track and XC, and decided it wasn't worth it. If it would pay for your education at a school you want to go to, then it's a good option, but otherwise I'd suggest against it.
