I've actually never listened to a tape but it seems like the people who make it available put a lot of effort into it

    Re: DMB Live 25 - 5LP Vinyl (180g)

Okay, for those talking about the price, let’s look at it. This release is 175.00 for 5 LPs with 25 songs.

    That’s 35.00 per LP, 7.00 per song.

Comparatively, looking at other DMB releases.

    Crash - 2 LP - 31.98 (DMB Store) (12 songs)
    15.99 per LP
    2.66 per song

    Remember Two Things - 2LP - 36.98 (DMB Store) (12 songs)
    18.49 per LP
    3.08 per song

    Big Whisky - 2 LP - 17.99 (DMB Store) (13 songs)
    8.99 per LP
    1.38 per song

    Red Rocks - 4LP - 79.98 (DMB Store) (17 Songs)
    19.99 per LP
    4.70 per song

    Away From The World - 2LP - 29.99 (Soundstage) (11 songs)
    14.95 per LP
    2.72 per song

    UTTAD - 2LP - 39.99 (Soundstage) (12 songs)
    19.99 per LP
    1.66 per song

Average DMB vinyl price looking at the above
16.40 per LP compared to 35.00 per LP of DMB25
(each LP of DMB25 is about 2.13 times more expensive)

2.70 per song compared to 7.00 per song of DMB25
(each song of DMB25 is 2.6 times more expensive)

But you also have to take into consideration that this is a special release, in special packaging, for the 25th anniversary, and includes never before released songs.

Legitimately curious....does this matter to anyone?

Someone wake me up when there is a FLAC digital download for these 25. I'm sure will be like a week after vinyl sells out, or crashes and burns.

Also consider the book, probably would have been priced at (at least) $25 if sold separately. So that takes it down to $30/disc.

Also, I assume they had to mix and then master each of these tracks, where with other vinyl releases the mix was already done and a master/remaster was all that was needed. I don't know on this one, just guessing, and it would drive up the cost.

Aren't people forgetting to include the cost of the hardcover book and stuff?

I still really hope there is at least a digital download even if it is exclusive for purchasers since I did.

It's tough, but miss a chance at having those songs, even though I don't listen to vinyl, can't do it lol. I'm a collector though as well, so I can blame it on that lol.

Yeah, the book is an added factor as well. So when you look at it, for what it is, this really isn't a bad price. I've seen single LPs at our local RSD for 35 bucks before, so this isn't unheard of.

Has the band ever put out a large release like this with only 1 radio song? This is a pretty cool gesture to the hardcore fans.

Yeah and I am collector too but I can't get myself to do this. I've also got too much adulting going on right now to do $175 lol. I like vinyl and occasionally listen to R2T and BW but not enough to justify this. I hope they'll figure out the demand is there for digital or CD and I'll grab it then. I mean I listen to music in my car, working out and at work. Not a lot of time in my day to just chill and listen to vinyl especially as Chad pointed out at $7 per song.

It's already there. It's all over their social media, not a chance they skip an opportunity to make more money with a digital download of this. They could charge $30 a D/L and make a killing. I'd pay that, it's 100% worth it.

The price is on gauging levels in my opinion but they have every right to price it that way because they will get it. 4/5 songs for $35 bucks isn't worth it to me but I totally understand why it would for others. This would be a great addition to the collection for sure, but would probably sit on my shelf and collect dust after the novelty wore off.

They can, but they are a pain to do and most aren't going to be an improvement over a decent CD/digital file.

Really the only time I rip vinyl is if the music doesn't exist digitally for sale. Mostly with old/obscure records/78s.

If they don't release a digital version, a vinyl rip will do just fine, but it won't sound as good as it does on the same vinyl record it is being copied from and an official FLAC would blow the rip away - generally speaking

They won't charge $30 for it... I'm sure it will be on iTunes everywhere afew weeks after release for $14.99 or something. and then a special CD set will be released exclusive to the warehouse probably for $20 in August

    here's the thing about that...

they usually just do that for the entire show each song is taken from, because, why not?

so, also, why not just release all the shows?

this has been done in the past with WH discs and the rest of the show ends up being a LT/dmblive

so... if you're playing at home, i would expect some/if not all of these songs to end up on a LT / DMB live in the next few years.

the "next LT" thread should be pretty dead after this, as we can see what they all will possibly be just judging from this box set.

yeah, since they're going to release this digitally, there's no point in ripping the vinyl... unless you want a 24/192 copy or something like that.

that's all assuming the bit depth of the original recordings are worth it (for this release, they mostly won't be).

Pumped to get this Stone released, one of my favorite versions. Outro is perfect. Also, FWIW, this version was the 1 song encore closer...

This is another point I'm struggling with on this one.

Are these recordings really going to be treated in such a way that the vinyl pressing really imparts that much more depth of sound and clarity...or are they just going to basically press CD rips to 5LPs and call it a day.

I know Doby is probably already on this

That's I wonder as well. There's no pressing/mastering info in the description and they usually have that in most of their vinyl releases.

    Re: DMB Live 25 - 5LP Vinyl (180g)

Still shocked by how phenomenal this release is – not only is the song selection fantastic, but management even nailed the eras that the songs were taken from. A '95 Seek Up? 2 from '96, a couple from '93 and '94? 10 Songs from between '00 and '04 when DMB was (imo) at their live best, including 4 from '00? Obscure gems like Doobie Thing, Falling off the Roof and finally (FINALLY) the 4.7.02 Bartender? This is an absolute home run.

I realize that the $175 vinyl only option for now is off-putting, but like many are saying it's a quick cash grab and soon enough a digital version will be available.

Random question: when is this actually being released?

I have a lot of vinyl and a proper setup to experience it, but this price really is absurd as was pointed out earlier. It should have cost no more than $100 to $125 (only because of the book). The band has reached the territory of like The Rolling Stones where they know their hardcore fanbase has grown up and now probably has money to spend. I'd love to have this vinyl release in my collection because it is a little bit special, but the price really is absurd.

Side totals are a good indicator, but there are other factors at play no?

Neither did I when I first got into the band. It took some time for me to look into it and get into it.

It's really not that difficult. It's more time consuming with older shows and SHN files, but with the effort put into taping now, it's wicked easy.

IMO it's awesome when you find a really well recorded older show.

I'm currently listening to People, People from 1-26-1993 and it's as clear the SPAC N2 tape from this year. I believe this is a soundboard, but none the less fantastic.

If they did the cds and the poster for $70 or so I'd consider it but realistically I already have many of these on discs. As someone said prior many of these sound pretty decent from the tapes. Honestly when I'm sitting on the deck listening to music I'm much too lazy to get up and keep changing records haha. I may just buy the poster.

Yes. You can put a 128k MP3 on one side of vinyl.
