50 miles is a pretty loose definition of near.

Lee's posts here are not a good look for either California or Texas.

EDIT: And the first 50 miles of states that border California and Texas.

I've joined some job groups on FB and been in contact with some companies down there about informational interviews over the phone. Worst case I can always use a recruiter. Hopefully something comes through!

Haha yeah I'm more in the logistics/forecasting/budgeting side of things than slinging sneakers. But I appreciate the thought man!

    Close! I moved to Dallas.

I'm not much help though, as work is what brought me down here. So I can't help with the job hunt stuff.

I can tell you though - as someone moving from a climate similar to yours - do NOT underestimate how fucking hot it gets down here. I mean...it's unreal. For like 3 months straight you open your door and feel like you just shoved your face in the oven. It gets really, really old really, really fast.

i have a friend that did a boston to austin move as well. she's been there for over a year with her boyfriend. when you make the move, make sure you and your gf both get your own social network and branch out to other people. it can be easy to rely on each other to meet people, but i think thats kinda dangerous. i visited my friend after she had been settled there for a year and she doesn't have one girl friend, she only hangs out with her bf and his friends. she appears very dependent, which i never chalked her up to be

yeah i always wonder which is worse- getting through the brutal northern winters or getting through the brutal southern summers. trying to run in single digit temperatures sucks in the winter but it's usually somewhat manageable. on the otherhand, i once tried to go for a run in august when i was in memphis, the sun wasn't even up yet but the humidity killed me. buckets of sweat in minutes. it wasn't even 7am yet

Amen to this. Friends of mine down here just split (they were dating for 5+ years), and now the girl is realizing she doesn't have her own friends, and how lonely that is. She's been trying to get me to come out, but I haven't yet because it's sooooo awkward.

IMO, the southern summers are more brutal, and I've always enjoyed hot weather. I just can't handle it being every. single. fucking. day. For MONTHS.

And the worst part? When the sun goes down? It's still fucking hot! Oh yeah, during the day it's only 103, but at night it gets down to a chilly 99!

Having moved to TN from Wisconsin, I agree with this completely. The key difference is that it's extraordinarily more difficult to be able to sleep in brutally hot weather than it is to do so in frigid winters.

    Hey guys!

Topping this thread with an update: I moved to Austin permanently with the GF two months ago and am loving it. I'd love to meet up with any Ants down here in the area if possible! Put a face to the username kind of thing. Loving this city so far. Although I do miss proper fall weather, I don't hate that I'm typing this next to my apartment complex's pool.

What part of town are you in?

Make sure you hit up the Texas thread in Tour Discussion come tour time. We will have a big tailgate at Austin and Dallas.

We’re down in South Park Meadows. Thankfully 35 isn’t a necessity for her commute, we’ve found alternatives. I’ll for sure hit up the Texas thread, excited to meet some of you guys this summer or earlier!

Yeah. Don't get me wrong, Texas has a lot of really cool things. I miss being able to get Torchy's when I'm hungover. I miss great BBQ everywhere. I miss patio bars on every corner. I miss being able to sit by the pool in November/December/February-ish/March. I miss golfing those months too.

I don't miss the fucking unbearable summers. You think 10 days is bad, wait until it's that way 90 days in a row. I don't miss the insane drivers. I don't miss pickup trucks or YETI stickers on everything. I don't miss the "Texas forever" attitude and general disdain for everything north of the Mason Dixon line (first time in my 29 years on this planet I was called a "Yankee").

I missed so much Chicago/northern stuff when I was down there too.

It's a mixed bag, and no where is perfect. Everyone has their preferences. I do love Austin very much and hope it works out for you guys! That town has a lot to offer.

    South. Nice. You chose wisely.

I'm south as well, but on the west side close to Mopac.
