Oh I totally agree. I hate that it is even part of our history. The school has done alot to get it to stop. The only incident that Ive ever even seen since Ive really followed the teams in 06-07 was the penny incident at the basketball game against pitt in 09, and that wasnt a student.

Nothing at all since then and nothing the few years before that.


Ive read reviews of people from every B12 school that has come to visit for games and like I said talked to alot of fans, only have gotten/read positive responses from everyone.

Id love to hear, because I highly doubt its anything beyond normal fans arguing which happens in every stadium in every sport.

We tailgate in the most central parking lot of the stadium. Everyone is super nice to visiting fans.

or how about the 4 LSU fans that were attacked in 2011 after LSU beat WVU? one guy got his face bashed in and needed emergency surgery. and one of the victims was a pregnant woman who had a rock throw through her car window and got covered in broken glass?

or the full blown riots after the Texas game in 2012 and the Baylor game in 2014? tens of thousands in damage, tear gas, and emergency vehicles flipped & vandalized

i'm sure your friends and the people around you are very nice

i'm sure maybe even the majority of WVU fans are like that. but the students and a minority of WVU fans constantly cross the line

I did forget about the LSU stuff. That was abhorrent. I was all over the lots for that game and I remember being so shocked hearing about it because we saw nothing but LSU and WVU fans drinking and partying together the entire day.

Also at calling them riots.

College kids doing dumb stuff after big wins happens literally everywhere. I think the worst thing that happened after either of those "riots" were kids pushing a dumpster down high street that went like 60 feet. There may have been a car flipped I cant remember for sure. Still, thats the same type of shit that happens everywhere.

the only way the bolded is true is if for some reason Morgantown news outlets are better than everyone else at covering the nonsense

bad behavior everywhere? yes, of course

worse and more often in Morgantown? yes, i think the evidence backs that up, especially when talking about NCAA fan bases.

I just dont consider drunk college kids doing dumb stuff in a crowd a riot. They werent attacking anyone. Theres gonna be small fires set after big wins, thats always how it goes, noone gets hurt it just tradition. I only saw one fire in my four years there.

Some students still think its free reign to do whatever because its WVU but its severely tamed compared to what it was in the 90s. The main area where the bad shit went on (sunnyside) was completely demolished and now is nothing but new apartment buildings.

Your original point was about safety of opposing fans and players. I wont back down from saying its totally silly to worry about that stuff any more if you come to town. The people are great and are glad other fans come to visit. There might be 1% incident that happens just like anywhere, but the stigma around that stuff with WVU really doesnt need to exist anymore.

I have never seen that behavior in Austin either. Or any of the other schools I have seen games at - Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, A&M, Mizzou, Ohio State. Lighting fires and flipping cars is NOT normal campus behavior
