Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Bowling said he's putting together a video for the CoD website today, showing off Survival mode that actually goes past round one.

Also, I wish Glen Schofield would stop doing these things, and let Guy Beahm do them. Guy is Sledgehammer's community manager (just like Bowling is for IW), but he's actually from the youtube scene. He used to post videos as Dr. Disrespect, and I've had a chance to talk/play with him in the past. Although I guess it'd be weird to have Robert Bowling and then 6'8" Guy next to him.

I love the character Guy made, although I think you're of the more popular opinion. Either way, it's so awesome that he was able to make the jump from us youtube guys to an actual gaming job. It feels like a blogger going from maintaining a blogspot in his mother's basement to the NY Times.

Hmm..probably not. Since Black Ops is not related to the MW series.

Correct. It is the 3rd installment of Modern Warfare and the 8th from the Call of Duty franchise.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Multiplayer release trailer. A lot of stuff going on here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuOCCeXlszw

The press embargo is up at 3:30, so I'll post as much explanation as you guys want, if you do want it. But, to be sure, there are some major changes in this game. I mean, if you want to say it's the same as all the other ones, fine. But if you are actually interested in the differences between versions, this one is pretty different.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Actually, I'm not going to get in any trouble talking about the stuff in that video. So, for some breakdown:

Killstreaks: You pick a killstreak tree, and then can select the killstreaks from within that tree. So, for the first time ever, you cannot have whatever killstreaks you want. If a killstreak isn't available in your tree, you can't select it.

One of the killstreak trees is the specialist tree, which allows you to get a new perk at 2/4/6 kills. You still have 3 perks in your class just like usual, so this would allow you to play the game with 6 perks, but no lethal/tactical killstreaks.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Assault Tier Killstreaks:
4 Kills – Care Package
5 Kills – IMS – 3 or 4 placeable landmines that cannot be stunned or flashed
5 Kills – Predator Missile
5 Kills – Sentry Gun
6 Kills – Precision Airstrike
7 Kills – Attack Helicopter
7 Kills – Little Bird Flock – Mini Helicopters which patrol the map
9 Kills – Little Bird Guard – Big Helicopter that follows you from above and protects you
9 Kills – Mortar team – Mortar team but with 5 predator missiles – all go off at the same time in different places
10 Kills – Talcon – Mini Tank Robot
12 Kills – AC130
12 Kills – Pavelow
15 Kills – Juggernaught Suit –
15 Kills – Osprey Gunner Cps – You control a chopper gunner that also drops an emergency airdrop for your team mates.

Support Tier Killstreaks:
4 Kills – UAV
5 Kills – Counter UAV
5 Kills – Ballistic Duffel – Drop Juggernaught perk for the whole team, not jugg suit
5 Kills – Airdrop Trap – Drops a hacked care package
8 Kills – Sam Turret
10 Kills – Remote [Missile] UAV – Target enemies with missiles
12 Kills – Advanced UAV – Blackbird
12 Kills – Remote Turret – Sentry Gun that you can control
12 Kills – Stealth Bomber
18 Kills – EMP
18 Kills – Juggernaught Recon Armour – Care Package Drop Armour
18 Kills – Escort Airdrop – Same as the Osprey Gunner but you dont control the gunner or chopper and Drops 5 care packages, one will be hacked

Specialist Tier Killstreaks (you have the opportunity to choose the perk each time):
2 Kills – You get 1 extra perk
4 Kills – Get another perk
6 Kills – Get another perk

So as you can see, if you want lethal killstreaks, you will not have the benefit of calling in UAV/Counter/Blackbird or anything else like that, you'll have to rely on your teammates to do that. Or, if you want lethal killstreaks and UAV, you better be ready to get a ton of kills, because the first lethal ones in support (true lethal ones) are up at 12.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Perks are pretty well balanced for the most part, and I think will provide some different looking classes. Certainly not MW2 where everyone ran Sleight of Hand/Stopping Power/Ninja.

Pro perks are everything after +
Tier 1
Extreme Conditioning – Sprint longer distances + Climb obstacles faster
Sleight Of Hand – Reload faster + Faster weapon swapping
Scavenger – Reload ammo from bags + Spawn with more ammo
Blind Eye – Undetectable from air support + Faster launcher lock on and extra damage to air support
Recon – Explosive damage marks target on HUD + Bullet damage marks target on HUD

Tier 2
Hardline – One less kill for Killstreak + Two assists count as a kill towards next killstreak (Like)
Assassin – Immune to UAV, Motion Sensor, Thermal and Heartbeat Sensor + Immune to CUAV & EMP
Overkill – Two primary weapons + Second primary can have 2 attachments
Quickdraw – Faster aim down sights + Faster animation of using equipment and throwing grenade
Blastshield – Flack Jacket (Immune to most explosives) + Immune to stuns and flashes

Tier 3
Sitrep – Enemy equipment is visible + Enemy footsteps are more clear
Dead Silence – Your footsteps are silent + No fall damage
Stalker – Faster movement with ADS + Delay on claymores
Marksman – ID target from range + Longer hold breath on scoped weapons
Steady Aim – Increased hip fire accuracy + Faster aim down sight while sprinting

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Some other changes to killstreaks: Killstreaks are no longer actually killstreaks, they are pointstreaks. None of the info I've gotten so far exactly breaks it down, but don't be surprised if a flag capture in capture the flag is 2 or even 3 "points". It might be just one, but it'll count. So will point captures in domination, probably defends in sabotage, and so on.

There are at least two new game modes, one of which you can see in that trailer, but I know that's a big no-no to talk about, so I'll wait until the embargo is lifted.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Interesting that they opted for trees this time around. Adds a bit of strategy I suppose. I guess that removes the idea of killstreak whoring, for those that consistently run the highest killstreaks (and can actually get them).

18 kills is a hell of killstreak though. Not impossible to get, but not a normal game by game thing. If kills don't count to streaks that's actually probably not going to be achieved unless you're a pretty hardcore camper or something.

I heard points contribute to killstreaks this time around though. So are these 18 actual kills, or the equivalent to 1800 points? Like if a kill is 100 points, you could get 1200 points off 12 kills, then 600 off of captures, defenses, etc.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Kills do count. So say you're running hardline in domination, and for our purposes, say a domination capture is two points, and a defend is one, and you have an 18 point streak on:

9 kills
2 captures
2 defends
4 assists

is 17 points, for your 18 point streak with hardline.

Also, as soon as you get your top killstreak, your streak starts over again. So if you run 3/5/7, your 10th point will get you a second of whatever your 3 was.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

so if the killstreaks are points based, would headshots be worth 2 kills basically?

I don't believe so. I think the "pointstreak" points are completely independent of the XP point system. A bit confusing, but hopefully will be fleshed out in the next hour or so by this press conference.

Update to what I put above: for the specialist point streaks, once you get 8 kills, you get all perks, unless I heard Bowling wrong.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Only confirmed one new gametype, called "Kill confirmed". Basically TDM, but your team doesn't get the kill unless you pick up the dead enemies' dog tags. But if the other team picks up the tags, the kill doesn't count. So basically, you can camp and kill people, but the kill doesn't count if you don't pick up the dog tag.

Attachments and 'specializations' will be unlocked by leveling up the gun, you get to choose what you unlock. So you can't just decide to try a new gun and buy whatever attachment, like BO.

Looks like the other gametype was scratched. Which is funny, because it was similar to Global Thermonuclear Warfare, the gametype that was actually on-disc on MW2, but they didn't release.
