We should be doing away with tipping, not expanding the concept. It is demeaning, as many people think of it as charity, even when the business is getting away with paying the person $2 an hour. It is the responsibility of the hotel to pay their employees a liveable wage. What are you paying for the room for? I worked for tips for years and always tip good in social circumstances that call for it, but we should be doing less tipping in society and more paying our employees better for the jobs they do. If that means raising the prices fine, but at least they wouldn't be reliant upon a custom not everyone understands or cares to understand.
