Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)
Just got through the 1st episode. Really liking it so far. HBO never fails to deliver.

Not the Dire Wolf! :SOB:
I really like this show so far. It can be intense at times, but maybe that's what makes it so good. |
Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)
I also am very much into this show. It feels like they are building up to some fantastic things to come. Still trying to figure out how the wall will come into play later on in the series.

Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)
As my avatar indicates, I get really amped up for Sunday evenings because of this show. I find myself re-watching the previous episodes numerous times just to hold myself over.

Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)
How long after the episode aires do they usually get online to download? I want to watch this tonight instead of tomorrow, but I don't have HBO :shrug

"All Along the Watchtower is such an amazing song! I love the line "the wind begins to howl." "You know that's actually a song by Bob Dylan, right?" "Who?" It just sounds like the person saying it assumes that the achievement belongs to the person who made the adaptation, whereas that is not the case. Likewise, it pisses me off when people refer to the Lord of the Rings "trilogy". I just don't understand how someone can be a Song of Ice and Fire fan without having read even one book. Just me I guess. |

In response to your last point, I have been a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire for three weeks now...since the first episode aired. Because of how much I like the show, I am going to go back and read the novels at some point. I suspect that many other people will do the same. That type of exposure is a great thing, and countless people will now take an interest in a literary series that they might not have known anything about beforehand. It's win-win. |

Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)
If I have one complaint, its that the glut of characters makes every episode feel like its plodding along an inch at a time.
Last night's episode was well-written and acted. But I feel like Im learning nothing of consequence. Forward momentum is agonizingly slow. That's fine in the overall arc of the series, because a larger story needs told. But it's killer when watching on a week to week basis. |

Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)
Preface: I have not read any books in the series.
Does anyone think that we are going to get flashbacks? There is so much back story that they have eluded to but not shown. I'm desperate to get some scenes of what happened 17 years prior. |
Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)
Im definately going to start reading the books.

Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)
^^me too, for sure. But I decided I would hold off and watch this series on HBO first before starting up on the books. I figure that before HBO gets into the 2nd season (which I'm assuming is based on the 2nd book?) I'll have caught up and surpassed the story line by then.

Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)
I just downloaded the third book for my Kindle... I can't stop!
Those of you watching the series first, there's nothing wrong with that IMO. So many characters are introduced that it's hard to keep them all straight sometimes, so when the series began after I was almost through with the first book, it was nice to put some faces to characters, also satisfying to see many of them looking much like I imagined they would. However, don't let seeing the series hold you back from the books! As is often the case, you get so much more detail and insight from reading than you do from the screen and I would highly recommend them. This is coming from a guy whose experience with fantasy novels goes only as far as Lord of the Rings. All in all, I think the adaptation to screen has been very well done. I'm interested in seeing how they handle things as the storyline develops. |
