Mercy and Gaucho are really bad songs...

Really disappointed... Anyone else or am I being too harsh?

This clearly needed its own thread and couldn't have been discussed in any of the other threads about these songs...

You're right. It's Stand Up all over again, and the album will be terrible. The band will fire Lillywhite, and the band will break up at the end of the year! :rattle

But in all seriousness, these songs are better than 90% of Big Whiskey, and better than most songs since Busted Stuff. We only got a taste of the album, and my hopes are still high. :)

Oooh, suddenly I want to post in this thread!

I disagree 1000%. Both songs are better than anything from Big Whiskey. Lyrically, they are decent. But musically, they are outstanding.

Exactly what i came in here to say. So :thumbsup

Both songs are really good. Try a few more listens.

Lyrically, they're really not political,(if that was your problem with them) but hopeful and encouraging. I think the lyrics are bipartisan, and anyone from the political spectrum can apply these lyrics to their own beliefs.

This doesn't deserve its own thread but yea I couldn't agree more. The lyrics are pitiful. Whoever said they are better than all of big whiskey is insane.

I like Mercy and LOVE Gaucho.

DMB can't ever make all their fans happy. There will always be people who they just can't satisfy.

Gaucho is the best guitar part dave has written since 2003.

Re: Mercy and Gaucho are really bad songs...

They are good songs. I like them more than most of Big Whiskey already. With that said, these are only two songs. Dave may have chosen to only drop these two songs because they might appeal to the masses. Who knows what the rest of the album may be like?

Re: Mercy and Gaucho are really bad songs...

Don't really like a whole lot from BW, but I'd still take LITHOG, Alligator Pie, and Seven over Mercy and Gaucho. A studio version of Mercy could be nice though.

EDIT - And Baby Blue.

Re: Mercy and Gaucho are really bad songs...

Does it always have to be between "OMG dIs iS dA bomB" and "iT suKx!!!111!!!" That is called a false dichotomy. They could just be good songs. Isn't that enough? Just because we post on a DMB fan forum doesn't mean we need to be snobby either way. I swear that some people just start threads to draw attention to themselves...

Re: Mercy and Gaucho are really bad songs...

They aren't that good of songs, but songs like You Never Know make an entire show worth the price of admission.

:thumbsup Gaucho has better music, but even full band Mercy is a bit tame. (here come people who think that means I want DMB to turn metal)

Re: Mercy and Gaucho are really bad songs...

I for one see it as a good thing that they seem to be intentional about keeping the slow songs as just that. It got to a point where just about everything ended up rocked out by the end of the song. I was expecting Mercy to build into that, but it never happened. I thought it was beautiful and had potential for an awesome Jeff solo. Aaand he sounded a LOT like Roi on it last night.

Re: Mercy and Gaucho are really bad songs...

Any of yall listen to last nights show? Carter is on FUCKING FIRE all night. Lillywhite brings the best out of him. Its clear this thing is ship is headed in the right direction.

Could you not hear that??

I wasn't even much of a Funny The Way It Is fan but they even brought the heat on that last night. I am stoked for this year for the first time in a long time.
